As Matthew Wood reports.......

After a tough start to the 24/25 season against pontefract and Old Rish, Cleck welcomed Bradford Salem to the pavilion.

The lads have worked really hard in training these last couple of weeks and it showed in the opening moments of this game. Good communication enabled the team to put some good pressure on the opposition. After some good ruck work Max gave a neat pass out to Ted who finished in the corner. More pressure led to Finlay disrupting Salem's ball and powering over from close range. Max got over line after some more team play.

Salem never gave up and got themselves back into the game; the middle periods were much more evenly contested, strong running from Will was supported all game by Charlie and Ben. Finlay crossed for his second try to keep Cleckheaton in the lead. George was a nuisance all game direct running and constantly getting over the gain line helped him pick up the magic moment award. Some more neat passing set Aidan free to break away for a long range try.

Both teams had an equal share in the latter stages, Salem had grown into the game and finished the stronger. Cleck had 2 potential tries disallowed for minor errors but ran out winners with 5 tries to 3.

Player of the match was Max, and Aidan picked up an award from Salem. Special mention to Eddie who made his debut for us too!

The team is looking to add new players to the squad. Please contact Hannah Curley on 07986 875603 for more details.
