As Carl Mason reports........

Cleck have not played Selby at our age group for some years, so we were not sure what to expect. We were all surprised when they arrived at the Whitcliffe Pavilion and started warming up as they looked the size of a Colts team! That did not affect the Cleck players though.

During the first half, Cleck played downhill and there was some fantastic spells of rugby from every player on the pitch. All the team defended like trojans and worked hard at guard and body guard around the ruck area, driving Selby’s attack back with every tackle.

The game was very evenly matched then a well worked team move by Cleck resulted in Will scoring our first try.

Cleck kept pushing hard and could have scored another couple of tries if it wasn’t for the last ditch defending by the Selby fullback.

Selby then scored a couple of break away try’s.

Half time score 7-12.

The second half was going to be harder playing up hill and against a team that had started to throw the ball wide at every opportunity. Again the Cleck lads stuck at it and kept working for each other.

Mitch then crashed over from short range which boosted the lads confidence.

Unfortunately the final result ran away from us but in no way did the final score line reflect the game itself.

Effort, teamwork and determination is what makes a rugby team and all our players demonstrated these attributes in the dying seconds when the team continued driving into the Selby defence and we were very unlucky not to score from Harvey’s cross field kick.

Good work lads ?

Final score 14 - 45

Backs MOM - Josh
Forwards MOM - Matthew
Try’s - Will and Mitch

We are looking forward to next Sunday’s game away at Old Crossleyans in the Yorkshire Cup.
